You Are Not Alone: Honoring Suicide Prevention Month at Lakeside Counseling center

September is Suicide Prevention Month—a time to raise awareness, offer support, and spread hope. At Lakeside Counseling Center, we want to take this opportunity to speak openly about suicide, mental health, and the importance of community, compassion, and care.

Why Suicide Prevention Month Matters

Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, yet it’s often shrouded in silence. Every life lost is a tragedy, and behind every statistic is a person—a friend, a parent, a child, a colleague—who was deeply loved.

Talking about suicide doesn’t cause harm; silence does. That’s why this month, and every month, we are committed to creating a space where conversations about mental health are safe, encouraged, and stigma-free.

Know the Signs

Many people who are struggling do not outwardly appear distressed. That’s why it’s important to know some of the warning signs, including:

  • Expressing feelings of hopelessness or being a burden

  • Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities

  • Extreme mood swings or changes in behavior

  • Talking about death, dying, or suicide

  • Giving away possessions or saying goodbye

If you or someone you care about is experiencing these signs, know that help is available—and effective.

What You Can Do

  1. Reach Out: If you're concerned about someone, trust your instincts. Ask them how they’re feeling. Let them know you care.

  2. Listen Without Judgment: You don’t need to have the perfect words—just being present can make all the difference.

  3. Connect to Support: Encourage them to seek help. Whether it’s a therapist, a crisis line, or a trusted support system, connecting to care is vital.

Our Commitment to You

At Lakeside Counseling Center, we believe that healing happens in connection. We are here to walk alongside you through the darkest moments, without judgment and with deep compassion.

We offer therapy services for individuals, couples, teens, and families. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or someone you love, we want you to know: you are not alone.
