Online and In-Person Therapy During Life Transitions

Life is change. Sit with that truth for a minute. People are not great at accepting change. We spend a lot of time trying to create a sense of equilibrium and stability, so when changes happen, it can feel like our whole world is in turmoil. If you’re going through a life transition or you know there’s one coming in the near future, it can be extremely beneficial to work with a therapist who can help you manage the emotions that arise during life transitions and understand the way that change can impact you. At Lakeside Counseling, we are happy to offer online therapy during life transitions. You can learn more about what to expect by reading this page or by reaching out to our team to schedule a consultation.

What Are Life Transitions?

Life transitions, simply speaking, are changes in your life. Most people think of big life transitions like graduating, getting married, starting your career, retiring, becoming a parent, or becoming an empty nester. These transitions are big and can have a significant impact on your life, but even the smallest changes or deviations from the expected can leave us feeling off kilter or out of control.  Small life changes, even those that are seemingly positive like a promotion at work, can really impact an individual’s mood, behavior, and thinking.

Who Can Benefit from Therapy During Life Transitions?

Whatever life transition you’re going through, therapy before, during, and/or after can help you navigate these potentially difficult times more easily. Whether life transitions are expected or unexpected, they can impact you in numerous ways. If you want someone to walk alongside you while you navigate even the most complicated transitions, therapy may be a good option.

What Happens During Therapy for Life Transitions?

You’ll begin your therapy sessions with an intake visit. This initial appointment will help us to understand your current situation and goals for therapy. It’s an opportunity to get to know your therapist and ensure you’re a good fit to work together and make plans to help you work toward achieving your goals. Throughout the course of therapy, you’ll talk with a therapist about how your life transition is impacting you, take steps to improve the experience, and develop skills and strategies that allow you to navigate your current life transition as well as future changes with greater ease.

Get Started with an Initial Appointment

At Lakeside Counseling, we begin the therapy process with a 55 minute intake session to explore the reasons you are seeking therapy and to set goals. When you’re ready to get started, we look forward to hearing from you.
